Most family tents, use large 19mm steel poles that are cable corded to reduce the possibility of breakage. All backpacking tents use 7000 series aircraft aluminum poles to prevent rust, resist cold and cracking, unlike fiberglass. Aluminum poles are also lighter than most fiberglass poles.
